“Hilarious, horrifying and heart-breaking” is the perfect way to describe this book. This book is the secret diaries of a junior doctor in his non holding back account of his time at the NHS.
I had seen people reading this on the tube, heard people raving about it but I didn’t really know what to expect of the book itself when I started reading. The first thing I realised was that the author Adam Kay is exceptionally witty and makes the book an exceptionally funny read. Told in diary excerpts over his years working up the ranks of the hospital ward, you learn a lot about the hard realities facing the life of a junior doctor - the good, bad and ugly.
While a really easy, enjoyable this book is also heart wrenching at times. Laughing one minute, crying the next, ‘This is going to hurt’ has set my expectations for non-fiction sky high.
